In the 80's if you needed a telephone number what did you do? Look in the yellow / white pages or call 411. In the 70's if needed to know who George Washington was you did what...? Open an encyclopedia and look up George Washington. Tools that I believed to be simple and self explanatory. Now we are in the age of information. Everything is at your fingertips and people are dumber then ever. I know dumb is a very strong word. Down right disrespectful at that. Good! Because as a society. We are failing big time.
We have become a society that does not read. Everything should be told to us. We have children that are growing up use to receiving information in 5 to 10 second blurbs. Patience is non-existent. So when a child cant concentrate what tag do we slap on them A.D.D. I have a friend let's call her "Carrie" (TO SAVE FEELINGS). Carrie must have every new Mac or Apple product that comes out. IMac, Macbook, IPad, IPhone, and Ipod Touch; if the made it she has it. Carrie doesn't work, she takes care of her parents. She is always home. Everything connected to the internet. She could be sitting in front a computer and she will still call me for information. I'm working, why are you asking me for the time of the movie? Look it up.
I hate travelling with people. Why? People don't use maps anymore. Even when people did use maps, they couldn't read them. Now people use GPS system and still get lost. How? Because the person can't listen to directions.
We don't use encyclopedias anymore. Urban fiction is considered literature. Reality Shows (oxymoron) are entertainment. When is the last time you used a dictionary or thesaurus (no it's not a dinosaur)? A society with so much information, but with out the commonsense to take it in.
